Wrong-Way Driver Killed In Multi-Vehicle NJ Turnpike Crash: State Police

A wrong-way driver from New York was killed, and three others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the New Jersey Turnpike early Sunday morning, Jan. 19, New Jersey State Police said.

Ramin Shakhgusegynov, 44, of Brooklyn, NY was driving a Volvo SUV southbound in the northbound lanes when he struck three vehicles at 4:20 a.m. on the northbound inner roadway near milepost 96.9 in Linden, NJSP Sgt. Charles Marchan said.

The Volvo collided with a Jeep driven by a 64-year-old Carmel, NY man. A Honda minivan operated by a 38-year-old Carteret man, behind the Jeep. A Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 59-year-old Colonia man then struck the Volvo, Marchan said.

Shakhgusegynov died while the other drivers suffered minor to moderate injuries, police said. The crash remains under investigation, and no further details were immediately available.
